While we are zealously performing the duties of good citizens and soldiers, we certainly ought not to be inattentive to the higher duties of religion. To the distinguished character of Patriot, it should be our highest glory to add the more distinguished character of Christian.

About This Quote

Am I supposed to just forget about religion when I'm in the military? In fact, is it expected that I am a Christian? There are two types of duties in the military. First, there are the duties of a good citizen. These duties include being an upstanding citizen by pledging loyalty to your country, standing up for what you believe in and respecting the rights of others. Second, there are the duties of a soldier.

These duties include defending the country from enemies and also training to be a better soldier. While we can't ignore our duties as a good citizen while we're in the military, we do have to make sure that we don't neglect our duty as a Christian soldier.
